On September 29th it is International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. This day will be centered around food loss and waste. The day was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. It is the intention that this day will reflect on solutions for food waste worldwide.

This year is the first time that the international food waste day will be organized. Andorra and San Marino have played a big part in getting this day on the map. In addition, the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization has put together a new platform to support the message of this day. This platform bundles information about various things such as measurements, reductions and policy. In addition, the platform contains examples of successful models that have been applied to reduce food loss and waste around the world.

The chief of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN is urging individuals and companies during the launching event to adjust and promote their policies in a responsible manner. It is important to tackle food loss and waste as effectively as possible and to give the international day a meaningful character, according to the director.
